State deputies on amendments to the Road Traffic Safety Law in BiH

(Patria) - The 28th session of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament has been scheduled for today in Sarajevo, starting at 11:00 AM. There are 12 items on the agenda.

Among other things, the deputies will consider the Bill on Amendments to the Law on the Public Radio-Television Service of BiH, proposed by Jasmin Imamović, with a request for urgent procedure.

In the second reading, the Bill on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on the Fundamentals of Road Traffic Safety in BiH, proposed by deputies Saša Magazinović and Jasmin Imamović, will be considered.

Magazinović states that the amendments to the law define for the first time the concept of reckless or dangerous driving, as well as its rigorous punishment.

He also states that the amendment was made in cooperation with prosecutors, court experts, and traffic engineers who clearly emphasized that there are many things that need to be changed in the current law.

The priority, he explains, is to influence the reduction of traffic accidents, especially those with fatal outcomes.

- We were told that the most common causes of such traffic accidents are reckless or dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and recently, very prominently, the use of mobile phones. All these things are contained in the law - states Magazinović.

He adds that reckless or dangerous driving is defined for the first time in BiH legislation, as well as rigorous punishment, with fines ranging from monetary penalties, multi-month driving license suspension, or vehicle confiscation for repeat offenses.

Among other things, the agenda for today's session also includes the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Salaries and Benefits in BiH Institutions, proposed by the House of Peoples.

Deputies will also consider a series of reports, including the Report on the Accommodation of Refugees and Aliens under Subsidiary Protection in BiH, and the Report on the Work of the Joint Commission for Oversight of the Intelligence-Security Agency of BiH for 2024.
