Edin Džeko, captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, was today presented with the State Award for Sport for 2016 by the Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, Adil Osmanović. The Association of Sports Journalists proposed Džeko for this award. The State Award for Sport in the amount of 15,000.00 KM was awarded to Džeko for his contribution to the successes of the BiH national football team, for which he has made 82 appearances since 2007. Džeko has scored 49 goals for the national jersey, reports the Patria agency.
Minister Osmanović said it was an honour to host such a footballer.
- Of course, Džeko also had a thorny path. If Portugal has Ronaldo, Sweden has Ibrahimović, we have Džeko - said the minister.
Džeko presented Minister Osmanović with his jersey from the Italian club Roma.
- Thank you for your kind words, and it is an honour and pleasure to be the recipient of this award. This is my second time in this building, and I hope that more and more athletes will come to this building for deserved awards. The state has many problems, and as an athlete, I appeal to those responsible to increase the budget for sports. Džeko was created in BiH, nowhere else. Emotions got the better of me, and the award goes to charity - said Džeko.
One part of the funds will be paid for the financing of the Parent House, while two more parts will be paid to children's homes in Mostar and Tuzla.
