Drljača: 7,000 workers lost their jobs, the Government cannot prevent layoffs

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Vesko Drljača, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH and Minister of Labour and Social Policy, said that the coronavirus pandemic will leave numerous consequences.

"The period ahead of us is uncertain and unpredictable. The scale of this pandemic necessitates that we act together so that no category is forgotten, especially pensioners, civilian war victims, and social categories. Each of us must do our job, and our common goal is to return to normal life," said Drljača.

He said that the citizens' concerns are justified but that the FBiH Government is doing everything to ensure economic stability.

"The Government has taken significant measures to preserve jobs. For the social welfare of persons whose employment has ended, the FZZZ has been asked to amend its work plan and align it with the new situation," said Drljača, adding that financial compensation for the unemployed will be provided.

He stated that pension payments have priority in budget disbursements and appealed to employers not to lay off workers.

"Slightly more than 7,000 workers have lost their jobs. The FBiH Government has no legal basis to prevent layoffs, but the Government can incentivize employers to cover part of the costs," said Drljača.
