Rodents have almost overrun Sarajevo. Residents of several Sarajevo neighborhoods like Alipašino polje, Otes, Butmir complain that rodents have become a daily occurrence, even entering their apartments, destroying gardens, writes the BiH news agency Patria.
Dr. Šefik Pašagić from the company "Sanitacija" confirmed for the BiH news agency Patria that the situation in the capital of BiH regarding rodents is catastrophic, and he fears that human lives are endangered because rodents are carriers of some diseases that can be fatal to humans.
The solution, says Dr. Pašagić, lies in preventive deratization, as well as more funds from the public budget for rodent control.
- The Sarajevo Canton does not allocate nearly enough funds for rodent control. For example, it is around 100,000 KM annually, while some cities in Croatia, which are smaller than Sarajevo, allocate one million or one and a half million KM annually for rodent control – said Dr. Pašagić.
Considering, notes Dr. Pašagić, statistical data which state that there are three rodents per person, it can be clearly concluded that at this moment in Sarajevo we have at least a million rodents.
Otherwise, systematic deratization in Sarajevo has not been carried out since 2010, while partial ones have not yielded the expected results, which in practice has resulted in an invasion of dangerous rodents.
