(Patria) - Civilians in Gaza are in a situation of perilous danger. Heavy bombing has devastating consequences for the population, said Dr. Natalie Kanem, Director of UNFPA, in a statement.
"Due to communication disruptions, UNFPA cannot reach its staff in Gaza and is extremely concerned for their safety, as well as for the safety of the women and girls it cares for. Among them are thousands of pregnant women, mothers, and newborns who are denied access to essential healthcare services.
UNFPA calls for the protection of all civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza, as well as health facilities, health workers, and patients.
We also call for the protection of humanitarian workers and the unconditional release of all hostages, as well as the priority observance of international humanitarian law. UNFPA also joins the calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid to the extent necessary to respond to the desperate needs of the people in Gaza.
This is an urgent test of humanity in which international solidarity and peace must prevail," emphasizes Kanem.
