Dr Fauci: US death toll could reach 200,000

(Patria) – The number of deaths in the US could reach 200,000, and the number of infected several million, stated leading US infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci.

According to data from the website of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 12,000 and 61,000 Americans have died annually from the flu since 2010. The flu pandemic that occurred in the period 1918-1919 claimed 675,000 lives in the US, according to data from this Center.

The number of deaths in the US due to the coronavirus pandemic has increased due to a shortage of ventilators in several major American cities, and on Saturday it exceeded 2,100, double the number from two days earlier. There are now 123,000 confirmed infections in the US, the most in the world.

It is estimated that New York and New Orleans, which are epicenters of the infection, will run out of ventilators in just a few days. There is also a shortage of coronavirus tests, although the White House has promised several times that there will be enough.
