(Patria) - US President Donald Trump announced that his administration will increase tariffs on cars and trucks from the European Union to 25 percent next week, accusing Brussels of not respecting a previously agreed trade deal.
This is a new move that could further escalate trade relations between the US and the EU, particularly in the automotive industry.
"I am pleased to announce that, because the European Union does not fully respect our agreed trade deal, next week I will increase the tariffs we charge the European Union for cars and trucks entering the United States. The tariff will be increased to 25 percent.
It is completely clear and agreed that if they produce cars and trucks in facilities in the US, there will be no tariffs.
A large number of car and truck factories are currently being built, with investments exceeding 100 billion dollars, which is a record in the history of car and truck production.
These factories, employing American workers, will open soon – nothing like what is happening in America today has ever happened!
Thank you for your attention to this matter," Trump said.
