Doctors in Tuzla Canton Call Off Strike

(Patria) - The Government of Tuzla Canton and the Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry of Tuzla Canton reached an agreement today on the peaceful resolution of the labor dispute, creating conditions for ending the multi-week doctors' strike in this canton.

As announced by the TK Government, in order to preserve the stability of the healthcare system, a solution was offered that was accepted by the Independent Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry during the conciliation process. In the coming days, an Agreement on coefficients for doctors of medicine, specialists, and subspecialists will also be signed.

Given that the key demands of the union have been met, representatives of the doctors confirmed that the strike, which began on May 18 this year, will be called off as early as tomorrow.

We recall, doctors in Tuzla Canton went on strike demanding an increase in coefficients for salary calculation, i.e., aligning their financial status with colleagues in other cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The union warned that the existing coefficients are among the lowest in the Federation and that it is necessary to improve working conditions to stop the departure of medical staff from the public healthcare system.

During the strike, healthcare institutions operated under a minimum work process regime, ensuring emergency cases and the provision of urgent healthcare.

The reached agreement represents a step towards normalizing the work of healthcare institutions in Tuzla Canton, and details of the agreement on new coefficients should be known after the official signing of the agreement between the TK Government and the Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry.
