Dodik gives up on Cvijanović: Ana Trišić-Babić will be acting president of Republika Srpska

(Patria) - Ana Trišić-Babić will be proposed as acting president of Republika Srpska, Istraga.ba learns from sources close to SNSD.

MPs in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska are expected to vote on this proposal tomorrow.

Although SNSD had previously proposed member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović as a candidate for acting president of Republika Srpska, this proposal has been abandoned.

The president of SNSD, Milorad Dodik, also confirmed that Cvijanović will not be a candidate for acting president of Republika Srpska.

"If you investigate a little, Željka will not be acting president," Dodik told reporters in Banja Luka, while Željka Cvijanović stood beside him.

Let us remind you, early elections for the president of Republika Srpska are scheduled for November 23 this year.

Previously, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina revoked the mandate of the president of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, who was sentenced by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to one year in prison and a six-year ban from holding the office of president of Republika Srpska. Dodik was convicted for not complying with the decisions of the OHR.

If Željka Cvijanović had accepted to be the acting president of Republika Srpska, it would have meant that the Central Election Commission would have had to revoke her mandate as a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to incompatibility of functions.

"One person can simultaneously hold at most two public indirectly or directly elected positions. Holding these positions simultaneously with holding positions in executive bodies of power is incompatible. It is also incompatible to hold more than one position in executive bodies of power simultaneously," reads the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The current candidate for acting president of Republika Srpska, Ana Trišić-Babić, was proposed by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, as the chief negotiator of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European Union.

Ana Trišić-Babić was the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as an advisor to Milorad Dodik.
