In a time when lies are getting louder and becoming part of official rhetoric, it is necessary to repeat the truth over and over again. We saw this in the presentations in Dayton, and in the new statements by Milorad Dodik.
The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, is once again claiming that Republika Srpska is a signatory to the Dayton Peace Agreement, which is simply untrue and a legally unfounded claim.
The documents are clear evidence that Republika Srpska was neither a subject of international law nor a signatory to the Dayton Agreement. On behalf of Republika Srpska in Dayton, the signatory was Nikola Koljević; he signed it as an authorized representative of the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, i.e., Serbia and Montenegro, which was a state and a subject of international law. Republika Srpska is an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina and as such does not have the status of a subject of international law, meaning it cannot be a signatory to international treaties and agreements.
These facts are not only important for legal precision but also because they allow for an understanding of the true relationships and responsibilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Spreading falsehoods, such as that Republika Srpska is an independent signatory to the Dayton Agreement, leads to public deception, destabilization of political dialogue, and undermines the international order.
Therefore, this cannot be the starting point for the dialogue that Dodik is calling for.
In a time when political elites in BiH often use political rhetoric to manipulate the people, it is the duty of the media, experts, and all responsible citizens to repeat the truth as loudly and as often as possible. Because, as has been often repeated, truth is what remains when the lie has passed its expiration date.
Ignoring these facts only deepens the crisis we are in, and stories about the special status of the entity are often political spins without legal basis.
Therefore, it is crucial that the truth is clearly presented, that the legal framework is respected, and that factual evidence is not obscured by political propaganda.
In a time of increasingly fierce political conflicts in BiH, repeating the truth is not just a recommendation; it is a necessity. Only in this way can we stop the avalanche of lies and enable a path towards real dialogue and stability. That is why we are repeating the text in which documents refute Dodik, because repetition is the mother of knowledge!
