Awards Presented: Project "My Bosnia and Herzegovina - My Heritage" Completed

In the "Radenko Mišević" Centre for Culture and Sport in Rogatica, on Thursday, December 11, 2014, an award ceremony was held for students, winners of the contest for the campaign "My Bosnia and Herzegovina - My Heritage", which is being implemented as part of the project "Restoration of the 16th Century Žepa Bridge", reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The campaign "My Bosnia and Herzegovina - My Heritage" is implemented by the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments with the financial support of the U.S. Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Heritage Preservation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness among young people about the importance of heritage and to encourage responsibility for its preservation. The campaign was carried out from March to October 2014, and was implemented in cooperation with six primary schools from the Bosniak-Podrinje Canton, and the cultural-artistic society "Romanijska Vrela", Mokro from Republika Srpska. Primary schools that participated in the campaign:

Primary School "Prača", from Prača
Primary School "Hasan Turčalo Brzi" in Ilovača
Primary School "Fahrudin Fahro Baščelija", Goražde
Primary School "Husein ef. Đozo", Goražde
Primary School "Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar", Vitkovići
Primary School "Ustikolina" in Ustikolina

As part of the campaign in the aforementioned schools, lectures were held on the importance of cultural and historical heritage, after which a contest for the best student work on the theme "My Bosnia and Herzegovina - My Heritage" was announced. Out of a total of 306 submitted artistic, literary, and model-making works, the works of 26 primary school students were awarded, as well as the two most active schools from Goražde, Primary School "Husein ef. Đozo" and Primary School "Fahrudin Fahro Baščelija", while a special award went to KUD "Romanijska Vrela" from Mokro. The awards were presented at the final ceremony, which was accompanied by a rich cultural and artistic program.

At the award ceremony, representatives of the U.S. Embassy and the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of BiH addressed the attendees.

The campaign "My Bosnia and Herzegovina - My Heritage" has been implemented by the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2006. So far, more than eighty schools from twenty Bosnian-Herzegovinian cities have participated in the project. Over 10,000 primary school students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, pedagogical institutes, and other educational institutions have contributed. The campaign includes lectures in schools, and visits to national monuments with the aim of bringing the significance of the diversity of cultural heritage closer to children, with a focus on old towns, architecture, artworks, crafts, oral traditions, etc.
