(Patria) - The EYOF 2019 delegation, led by mayors, officially received the Torch of Peace from the European Olympic Committee yesterday. In addition to the torch, the mayors also received an olive branch in Rome, which also symbolizes peace and unity.
This is the first time in the history of the EYOF that the torch is being received by two cities from the same country.
Before arriving in Sarajevo, a ceremony to welcome the Olympic torch for the 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) will also be held in Banja Luka today. The Olympic torch will be received by the highest officials of Republika Srpska, and the President of Republika Srpska, Željka Cvijanović, will hand it over to the Mayor of East Sarajevo, Nenad Vuković.
The Olympic flame will be housed in the City of Sarajevo until the opening ceremony, after which it will be part of a rich exhibition at the Olympic Museum.
Mayor Abdulah Skaka emphasized yesterday that he is very honored to have the opportunity to participate in this historic moment for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I am very happy and proud to be the mayor of Sarajevo, where the flame will be lit again on February 10th. Today we received another important gift, an olive branch of peace, which carries an important message. It symbolizes peace, what we live in the city of Sarajevo. I believe that in the time ahead, we will work on a large number of joint projects, and that positive times lie ahead for the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo and the people of BiH,” stated Abdulah Skaka.
