Children's and basketball playground on Babića bašča plateau

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A combined children's and basketball playground is available to the citizens of the Babića bašča local community, and it was built thanks to the participation of the Old Town Municipality in the international project "Strengthening the Role of Local Communities in BiH".

- This is the largest playground in the Old Town built so far within the project implemented by UNDP, financed by the governments of Switzerland and Sweden. This year, playgrounds were also built in Širokača and Vratnik through the same project - explain in the competent Sector for Local Development of the Old Town Municipality. Also, this combined playground was built thanks to the citizens of this Old Town local community who submitted a proposal to UNDP, and it meets the needs of the youngest, as well as the older ones.

In one part of the plateau, with an area of about 200 m2, there is a children's playground with a combined structure with a wooden house and a slide, and a swing with a climbing net, a spring rider, a merry-go-round, and two seesaws have been installed. In the other part, with an area of about 100m2, there is an asphalted court for street basketball with accompanying equipment, and the entire playground is already fenced. Three benches for rest and three waste bins have been placed within the playground. The total value of the project is 35,000 KM, for which the governments of Switzerland and Sweden provided 17,000 KM, and the Old Town Municipality provided 18,000 KM. The contractor was the company Sela d.o.o. Sarajevo.

"Strengthening the Role of Local Communities in BiH" is a joint project of the Government of Switzerland and the Government of Sweden worth 14.5 million KM, and it is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The goal of the project is to increase the democratic and direct participation of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in local government, strengthen the accountability of municipal authorities, and improve infrastructure and services at the local community level. The Old Town Municipality Sarajevo participates in this project through the Sector for Local Development.
