Director of UKCS calls for abolition of dual medical practice

After the meeting between UKCS director Sebija Izetbegović and representatives of the Federation Parliament, it was known that the topic was the amendment of the Law on Health Care of the FBiH. Details have also emerged. Sebija Izetbegović advocates for the abolition of dual medical practice at UKCS. Thus, the previous work in both private and state practice will no longer be possible, writes the Patria agency.

Something similar has already been partially implemented by Izetbegović at the hospital “Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš”, although not completely. Namely, a number of doctors remained with dual employment, in both state and private practice.

It is said that around 250 doctors from UKCS work simultaneously in state clinics and private practices. This type of dual medical practice has caused considerable resentment among citizens.

Therefore, with possible new legal solutions, all doctors would be offered a choice between state practice or private practice.

It is believed that dual practice encouraged corruption and harmed the quality of patient care.

Of course, there will be complaints about this possibility of new legal solutions as well. A problem with the attrition of medical staff will likely arise. Rare specialists will leave state institutions. Especially the more skilled ones will leave. Many doctors will also head to the European Union or other countries that offer enormously better conditions. All of this could create serious gaps in quality treatment for patients. More serious than anything is that it could take a long time for the situation to stabilise. The situation of dual medical practice with the same patients is unsustainable and solutions are necessary.
