Director of VBA on the discovery of explosives in Kanjiža: We are searching for the migrant who attempted to carry out sabotage

(Patria) - The Director of the Military Security Agency (VBA) Đuro Jovanić assessed that today's operation in Kanjiža was preceded by good fieldwork and that they "had information that a person from the group of migrants would attempt to carry out sabotage on the gas infrastructure." He stated that this person will be apprehended, N1 Serbia reports. Hungary has also been informed about everything.

"For months, we have been pointing out to the supreme commander, President Aleksandar Vučić, as well as to the state leadership, that something like what happened today could occur. To be honest, we encountered skepticism, disapproval, and disagreement. As in the case when we had to present relevant indicators that stations and gas infrastructure could be threatened," Jovanić stated.

He emphasized that today's operation was preceded by good operational work in the field and a good exchange of information with other services.

"We had data that a person from the group of migrants, militarily trained, would attempt to carry out sabotage on the gas infrastructure," he stated.

They faced daily disinformation about the time and manner of the attempted commission of this criminal act, i.e., sabotage.

This person is being sought and will, as he said, be apprehended.

He also said that "it is not true that Ukrainians attempted to organize this sabotage," because, as he explained, "the manufacturer of the explosives does not mean they are also the client or the perpetrator."

At the scene, specially packaged explosives were found, hermetically sealed, detonator caps - specially prepared and packaged for transport, as well as detonating cord and suitable tools and accessories for preparing these explosives for carrying out sabotage.

"Based on the markings on the explosives, it can be seen that they were manufactured in the USA," the director of the VBA stated.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Subotica has classified the case as the criminal offense of illegal production, carrying, and trafficking of weapons and explosive materials in conjunction with the criminal offense of sabotage.
