DF: Monument to Pelemiš insults victims of the Srebrenica genocide and all crimes in eastern Bosnia

(Patria) - The Democratic Front condemns the erection of a monument to Milorad Pelemiš, commander of the criminal 10th Sabotage Detachment of the Army of Republika Srpska.

"Milorad Pelemiš, according to testimonies from final court verdicts, participated in the Srebrenica genocide and in committing the most severe war crimes against Bosniaks.

We remind that in testimony before the Hague Tribunal, member of that unit Dražen Erdemović said that, by order of Milorad Pelemiš, on July 16, 1995, at the Branjevo military farm near Zvornik, together with five other members of the same unit, he shot about 1,200 Muslim men. The key witness in later proceedings,
Erdemović, also claimed that Pelemiš on July 11, 1995, in Srebrenica ordered the murder of one person.

The erection of a monument to Pelemiš insults the victims and witnesses of the Srebrenica genocide and all crimes in eastern Bosnia, while simultaneously raising the question - why a man who, according to witnesses and final court verdicts, had a key role in the genocide was never prosecuted before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, never brought to justice, although according to the BiH Prosecutor's Office he was in the status of a suspect. Also, Serbia in this case continued its long-standing practice of protecting war criminals, because Pelemiš was also among the persons for whom the Humanitarian Law Center reported to the War Crimes Prosecutor's Office of Serbia, but against him in the neighboring country an indictment was never
filed", the DF stated.
