SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Democratic Front (DF) announced on Sunday that with the publication of the European Commission's Opinion, the policy that had been 'misleading the domestic public about how to ensure so-called 'legitimate political representation of peoples' suffered a brutal and painful defeat before EU institutions.
"Therefore, whenever the Election Law is discussed, it must be known that what HDZ mentions is in complete opposition to the EU, and the gentlemen from HDZ flee from the European Commission's recommendations like the devil from the cross," the DF stated.
From this political party, they emphasize that Croats have the right to vote for a member of the Presidency from among the Bosniaks, and Bosniaks have the right to vote for a member of the Presidency from among the Croats. The right to vote does not stem from belonging to a nation but from the very fact that every person as a citizen can choose whom they want.
"In the European Commission's Opinion, without the possibility of different and freer interpretations, there is a clear analysis of what in our country is not aligned with European standards."
"The Constitution of BiH contains parts where there is an ethnically based method of electing officials, as well as a method of decision-making on an ethno-territorial principle, which is not in accordance with the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights, therefore further strengthening of the ethnic model is not possible according to the European Commission's opinion.
The election, composition and decision-making method of the collective head of state and legislative bodies gives priority or is reserved exclusively for members of constituent peoples, which, according to the EC's measures and recommendations, requires necessary reforms to ensure that all citizens of BiH can exercise their political rights in accordance with the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights from the Sejdić-Finci package and other related judgments.
From this, it is very clear that these recommendations are also a brutal defeat of HDZ's anti-civilizational policy, which, with lies, as seen from the failed appeal of Borjana Krišto, convinced the domestic public that 'legitimate political representation of peoples' should be ensured.
The election of delegates to the Houses of Peoples was also assessed in the Opinion as being contrary to European standards, as well as the invocation of 'vital national interest' being an element that hinders the adoption of all laws, including those concerning the European acquis, thereby visibly demanding a change in the legislative role of the Houses of Peoples.
We remind that the key part of the Opinion are the conclusions and recommendations, the first of which refers to the need to amend the Election Law, but in accordance with European and not neo-Soviet and South African standards, while respecting the recommendations of the Venice Commission regarding electoral legislation.
Also, we remind that the Venice Commission, during last year's negotiations on amendments to the Election Law of BiH, said that the issue from the 'Božo Ljubić' decision should be resolved by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is in line with the proposal articulated through the DF and SDP's proposal for the Law on Electoral Units and Mandate Distribution in the FBiH, but that draft law was removed from the session of the House of Peoples by the so-called 'promoters of European values' in their well-known procedure of protecting vital national interest.
"By inventing non-existent terms for Europe, such as the so-called 'legitimate representation of peoples', HDZ is actually nullifying BiH's candidate status and postponing it for who knows how long, as well as BiH's further European path," the DF statement said, as reported by NAP.
