Nineteen Sad Years Since the Horrific Tragedy at the 'Bjelave' Children's Home

(Patria) - On this day, April 22, 2007, an unprecedented and horrific tragedy occurred in Sarajevo.

In a fire in the Baby Ward, six of the youngest wards of the Children's Home "Bjelave" lost their lives, while 18 were injured.

On that fateful day, the lives lost were Medina Bostandžija, Al'dina-Dalal Akmadžić, Amina Čustović, Džemal Šabanović, Faik Krasnići, and Damir Pejanović.

The fire, which spread to two children's rooms and was caused by a switched-on heater, broke out around 5:30 a.m.

At that moment, 25 children born in 2006 and 2007 were sleeping in the rooms. The victims of this fire were buried at the Vlakovo cemetery.

The "Bjelave" Home, formerly the "Ljubica Ivezić" Home, has been operating since 1946 and houses children without parental care.
