Derventa: Serb discovered to his Bosniak neighbors that the sewage will pass through the cemetery

Local authorities in the municipality of Derventa in Republika Srpska plan to run a sewage network through the Bosniak cemetery, which has caused dissatisfaction among Bosniak returnees to this place, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Part of the sewage network in Derventa has reached the cemetery itself, known as Pijetlović sokak, but around 1,000 Bosniak returnees were horrified when one of their Serb neighbors told them that local authorities plan to continue the sewage network through the cemetery.

Although the Municipality denies this plan, claiming that the cemetery is only one of the possible options and that it is not a sewage network but a channel for collecting wastewater, Bosniaks are concerned and disappointed that their cemetery is even being considered as a possible route for future sewage, even if it is a channel for collecting wastewater.

Before the last Serb aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 7,000 Bosniaks lived in Derventa, mostly in the city. From the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995 to the present day, only about 1,000 Bosniaks have returned to Derventa, living there year-round, with very few rights in society, writes Patria.
