(Patria) - The 158th Sarajevo derby also ended without a winner. Željezničar and Sarajevo drew 0-0 at Grbavica in a match that resembled a tactical battle more than a true derby – and was largely quite sleepy.
Although there was no shortage of fight and tension, there was almost no quality football or real chances. The key moment occurred at the beginning of the second half, when VAR disallowed the home team's goal, practically "locking" an already dull match.
The first half offered very little excitement. Sarajevo had the only serious chance in the 31st minute: after a mistake by Muftić, the ball came to Gojković, but Seedorf reacted brilliantly and saved Željezničar from the goal line. It was a rare moment that briefly woke up the stands, as the rest of the game consisted of caution and battles in midfield.
Towards the end of the first half, things got heated between the players, and referee Admir Musić calmed the situation with yellow cards (Muftić and Joao Carlos), but even that did not bring more rhythm or quality to the game.
The second half brought the most drama, but not better football. In the 49th minute, Željezničar found the net through Aleksa Pejić, but after a long VAR check, the goal was disallowed due to a foul by Odinka at the start of the action. That decision further raised tensions, but the pace of the match remained slow and interrupted.
Until the end, the game continued at the same pace – tough, cautious, and without real attacking ideas. Željezničar missed a good opportunity in the 75th minute when Prokop shot high over the goal, while Sarajevo threatened mainly from set pieces, but without a concrete finish.
In the end, the nets remained untouched in a derby that, despite high expectations, will be remembered more for the VAR intervention than for the football – and for the fact that it was one of the most content-poor and boring clashes between city rivals in recent times.
