Denis Bećirović proposes depoliticization of the BiH Presidency

At the 37th session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, SDP BiH MP Denis Bećirović launched a parliamentary initiative that envisages the complete depoliticization of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The text of this initiative, among other things, obliges the “Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina to, no later than six months from the date of adoption of this initiative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, prepare and submit to the parliamentary procedure Amendments to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which stipulates that an elected member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina must not be a member of a political party, or upon taking office, resigns from party duties and informs the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina about it.“

In the explanation of this initiative, Bećirović stated that the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the example of countries in the region and the European Union, should be depoliticized and legal preconditions created for elected members of the BiH Presidency to perform their functions professionally, responsibly, and in the interest of all citizens and peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Unfortunately, currently, most members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina direct most of their political energy towards realizing their partial, narrow party goals, rather than general and state priorities for which they were elected to these positions. This negative practice must change, and Bosnia and Herzegovina should, in this regard, move closer to the standards and norms that prevail in developed and democratic countries - it is stated in the press release of SDP BiH, reports Patria.

At tomorrow's 39th session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, MPs will vote on this initiative.
