Democratic Front: Will Our Party distance itself from Šehović or is their stance that BiH fans are nationalists and neo-fascists

(Patria) - The Democratic Front strongly condemns the statement by member of the Presidency of Our Party, Faris Šehović, who, at a time when the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region are together cheering for the BiH national team at the World Championship, labelled citizens who are celebrating the successes of our selection as "nationalists" and "neo-fascists".

"Such a statement insults not only the athletes who are dignifiedly representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also thousands of citizens who in these days are experiencing rare moments of togetherness and pride.

What is particularly concerning is the fact that such an attitude shows a deep misunderstanding of the feelings of ordinary people and an attempt to portray love for one's own country and its national team as something negative. If supporting the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team and pride in state symbols is 'neo-fascism' for Faris Šehović, then the question rightly arises as to what kind of Bosnia and Herzegovina and what kind of citizens he actually wants," the reaction states.

The Democratic Front states that the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team does not divide citizens, but gathers and unites them.

"Therefore, we call on Our Party to declare whether the statement by Faris Šehović is his personal stance or the stance of the Presidency of Our Party. If it is the stance of an individual, then we call on the leadership of Our Party to clearly distance itself from a statement that insults the feelings of numerous fans and athletes across Bosnia and Herzegovina."
