Delegates call on Košarac to vote for Reform Agenda and avoid new reduction of funds from Growth Plan

(Patria) - Staša Košarac, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, is also attending today's 18th emergency session of the House of Peoples of the BiH PA.

Some delegates called on Košarac to vote at today's session of the BiH Council of Ministers for the Reform Agenda, in order for BiH to avoid a new reduction of the tranche by 108 million euros. The telephone session began at 12:00 PM. Safet Softić and Kemal Ademović appealed to Košarac.

Šefik Džaferović, after the introductory statement by Staša Košarac, said that the Bill on the Regulator, Transmission and Market of Electricity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, proposed by the BiH Council of Ministers, was not considered at the session of the House of Representatives of the BiH PA, but it will be at the session on October 15.

"This is an important law. But we will not support the emergency procedure, but rather an abbreviated one. When the House of Representatives of the BiH PA considers this law, then we will return here and consider the law," said Džaferović.

Delegate Zlatko Miletić said that this law has been awaited for eight years and that he agrees with Džaferović's proposal.

"If we want this law to pass as soon as possible, let it go from emergency to abbreviated procedure," said Miletić.

The goal of the law is to transpose 16 EU directives and the Electricity Integration Package, with a focus on creating a regulated wholesale electricity market and establishing an electricity exchange in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thereby fulfilling one of the prerequisites in this area for the exemption of our country from the application of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The proposed legal solutions correspond to the Reform Agenda for the Growth Plan, and involve connecting BiH's electricity market with the electricity markets of the contracting parties to the Energy Community and the European Union.

Košarac addressed the delegates again, stating that if the law is unpacked and amendments begin, the law will not be adopted, and there is little time left for BiH to prepare by January 2026.

The House, with 15 votes in favor, voted for the law to be considered under an abbreviated procedure.
