EU Delegation Warns: Avoid Further Delays in Government Formation

Commenting on the process of forming cantonal governments, Renzo Daviddi, Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation to BiH, stressed that forming governments at all levels is of utmost importance as a top priority, the EU Delegation to BiH announced, as reported by the Bosnian news agency Patria.
  
- In this context, the European Union recalls that the election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the FBiH should be carried out immediately upon the convening of the cantonal assembly after the elections, and no later than one month after the certification of election results. The legal deadlines for the election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the FBiH have expired, and any further delays in this process will negatively affect the election of the President and Vice Presidents of the FBiH and the formation of the FBiH Government, as well as the formation of the House of Peoples of BiH - Daviddi warns.

Therefore, the European Union Delegation and the Office of the Special Representative of the European Union call on the assemblies of the Sarajevo and Una-Sana cantons to urgently resolve the issue of nominating delegates to the House of Peoples of the FBiH and submit candidate lists to the Central Election Commission of BiH.

- We also encourage other cantonal assemblies where the election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the FBiH has not yet been fully completed to speed up their work and finalize the procedure. Authorities at various levels in the country have the task of addressing pressing issues in terms of the needs and demands of citizens, and therefore any further delays should be avoided - the statement reads.

We recall that the EU Delegation to BiH also warned in 2010 after the General Elections about the urgent formation of the government, but despite this, the government was officially formed in March 2011.
