EU Delegation on flag tearing: Bring those responsible to justice

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The European Union Delegation to BiH reacted today regarding the tearing of the EU flag at the Croatian Embassy in Sarajevo. 

"The EU in BiH strongly condemns the destruction of the flag on the premises of the Croatian Embassy in BiH. We call on law enforcement authorities to conduct a swift investigation and bring those responsible for this act of vandalism to justice," they stated in a Twitter post. 

The incident occurred during the night from Saturday to Sunday, and the Sarajevo police are already searching for the perpetrators. 

In addition to the flag, which was removed from its holder and thrown onto the street, the metal holder on which the flag stood was also damaged. 

The flag of the Republic of Croatia was not damaged. 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH also reacted after this act of vandalism. 

„I condemn the destruction of the European Union flag on the building of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Sarajevo. This act of vandalism committed by individuals is unacceptable to us, does not represent the stance of the majority of citizens of our country, and has no place in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our firm and strategic commitment is membership in the European Union, as well as the advancement of building good neighborly relations with the Republic of Croatia based on respect and understanding. I expect the competent investigative authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to shed light on this unfortunate event as soon as possible,“ said Minister Turković.
