Sarajevo Canton Days to Feature Concerts, Plays, Children's Programs, Exhibitions, Collage Programs, Book Promotions

(Patria) - The celebration of Sarajevo Canton Days will again this year, from May 2 to 9, offer numerous cultural contents, concerts, plays, children's programs, exhibitions, collage programs, book promotions, and other cultural events.

The details of the program were discussed by the director of the Bosnian Cultural Center (BKC) Jasmin Duraković, Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Nihad Uk, director of the Skenderija company Šenaj Avdić, and the legendary Sarajevo photographer Rikard Larma.

- As in previous years, in cooperation with our partners, we are presenting a rich and diverse program with which we mark May as a month of remembrance of the war events.

This year, we particularly emphasize cooperation with JP Skenderija, where music programs will be organized in the Youth Center. We will show a series of film screenings, including the domestic film "Mont Everest", and a play about the Dragon of Bosnia will come from Gradačac.

There will also be children's plays and the long-prepared exhibition of photographs by Rikard Larma, which testifies to the suffering and lives of Sarajevo's youngest residents during the siege.

I am pleased that the KS Government shows special sensitivity towards culture and art, which has been visible on the Sarajevo cultural scene in recent years - stated Duraković.

Prime Minister Uk emphasized that the quality of cultural programs in Sarajevo is increasing year by year, thanking the organizing committee and BKC for creating and realizing this year's content.

- The program is based on four fundamental pillars: the first is memorialization and remembrance of the war events of May 1992, with visits to the memorials of our heroes. The second pillar relates to children - our future - through plays, playrooms, and exhibitions intended for the youngest.

The third is a rich cultural and artistic program, and the fourth is the health-preventive aspect, with promotions and calls for citizens to take care of their health, which the Ministry of Health has been successfully implementing for several years - said Uk.

Skenderija Director Šenaj Avdić expressed satisfaction that this company will be part of the KS Days celebration. A big rock concert titled "New Hopes, New Strengths" is announced for May 9.

Rikard Larma thanked for the invitation and said that he returned to Sarajevo after 25 years.

- This is my way of giving back, of showing everyone now and always what life was like under siege. This exhibition particularly testifies to the suffering of children. I invite adults to bring their children and grandchildren, to learn and remember from these photographs - says Larma.

His exhibition of war photographs of besieged Sarajevo, titled "Cry for 1,601 Children," will be opened on May 5 in the BKC exhibition hall.
