Elections for the president of the Social Democratic Party of BiH are being held on Sunday, September 20, and the candidates are Nermin Nikšić, Miro Lazović, Emir Đikić, Svetozar Pudarić and Jasmin Imamović, writes the BiH news agency Patria.
The new SDP president can be elected by 27,000 members in 94 organizations in BiH between 7 AM and 7 PM. The first preliminary results should be known around 9 PM.
During the 20-day presidential campaign, candidates held debates in 12 BiH cities.
As explained by SDP Secretary General Irfan Čengić, if no candidate receives 50 percent of the votes today, the two candidates with the most votes will proceed to a second round, which will be held in seven days. The candidate who receives 50 percent of the votes then will be the new SDP president.
After the presidential election, SDP expects its Congress on October 3, where more than 850 delegates will adopt a new statute, program, and elect members of the Main Board.
