Day of the Golden Lilies of Zenica-Doboj Canton in Breza: Younger generations should learn about the courage and sacrifice of those who defended BiH

(Patria) - The central commemoration of the Day of the Golden Lilies of Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK) was held today in Breza, which this year was marked together with the Municipality Day.

The commemoration program gathered numerous delegations, government representatives, veterans' organizations, citizens, and youth, who paid tribute to those who made the greatest contribution to the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina.



The commemoration began with a gathering in front of the Breza Municipality building, after which delegations laid flowers and paid tribute at several memorial sites - the memorial ossuary of NOR fighters, the Roman Catholic cemetery, the martyrs' graves, and the Central Memorial to martyrs, fallen soldiers, recipients of the highest war honors, and civilian victims of war.

A ceremonial parade followed to the Cinema Hall, where a formal academy dedicated to the Day of the Golden Lilies and the Breza Municipality Day was held.



ZDK Prime Minister Nezir Pivić emphasized that the Day of the Golden Lilies is a reminder of the courage and determination of the defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina who, despite the lack of weapons and military resources, managed to defend their homeland.

- This is an opportunity to remember how Bosnia and Herzegovina was defended - with courage, heart, and love for the homeland. People who were not professional soldiers, who did not attend military academies, showed that no military force can overcome the determination and love for one's own country - Pivić stated.

He stressed that it is especially important to commemorate these dates so that younger generations learn about the courage and sacrifice of those who defended Bosnia and Herzegovina.



- It is important that our youth know how Bosnia and Herzegovina was defended. That is why the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs and the Government of ZDK pay special attention to nurturing a culture of remembrance and preserving the achievements of the defense-liberation war - said Prime Minister Pivić.

On this occasion, he congratulated the citizens of Breza and praised the progress of the local community thanks to the work of Mayor Vedad Jusić and numerous development projects.

- Our obligation and duty is to remember the heroic successes and feats of our fighters and to be worthy of the sacrifices that members of the Army of RBiH bravely and selflessly made in the fight for freedom and a better tomorrow for all of us - said the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of ZDK Adnan Sirovica.



The commemoration of the Day of the Golden Lilies once again confirmed the lasting gratitude towards the heroes and the importance of preserving their sacrifice in the memory of future generations.
