Day of Remembrance for the Murdered Children of Sarajevo: It is shameful that there are no indictments for the siege and murder of children!

(Patria) - Delegations from all levels of government laid flowers and paid tribute to the murdered children at the Monument to the Murdered Children of Sarajevo under siege 1992-1995 today.

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has never filed a single indictment for the siege of Sarajevo or for war crimes committed against the citizens and children of Sarajevo.

Mayor of the Old Town Municipality Irfan Čengić stated that the truth about the period of aggression must be passed on to new generations.

"All these murdered children testify to how ruthless they were in their crimes," said the Mayor of the Old Town Municipality, Irfan Čengić.

During the siege of Sarajevo, which began on April 5, 1992, and lasted until February 29, 1996 (1,425 days), 11,541 residents of Sarajevo were killed, including 1,601 children. Children lost their lives to shells, they were targeted by snipers while playing...

"Today we mark the Day of Remembrance for the Murdered Children of Sarajevo. Today, these children would be fathers and mothers, but unfortunately, their lives were extinguished by the aggressor. For years, we have been repeating that this must never happen to anyone. Unfortunately, it is happening right now in different parts of the world. Children are still being killed today. I don't know when it will stop, but it is important that we in institutions talk about it.

So many years after the aggression, there are no courts that have dealt with this issue. Justice is slow, but it must also be attainable," said Nihad Uk, the outgoing Prime Minister of KS.

The president of the Association of Murdered Children of Sarajevo, Fikret Grabovica, stated that he is particularly disappointed that no indictment has ever been filed for the siege of Sarajevo, including for the murder of all those children who tragically perished.

"It is difficult to express what parents feel. That realization is particularly hard on us. It is shameful, unbelievable, and unreasonable that there is still no indictment, that the Prosecutor's Office deals with much less important crimes, and there are no proceedings for this."
