Members of the "Sanela Redžepagić" Foundation will mark Daffodil Day today in front of the Sarajevo Cathedral – a day dedicated to prevention, early detection, and all those affected by breast cancer, reports the news agency Patria.
Azra Ikalović, president of the Association of Cancer Patient Associations of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Union of Women with Breast Cancer „Iskra“ from Banja Luka, stated earlier that there is still no central registry of cancer patients in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, she warned that 500 patients are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the country.
Dr. Timur Cerić from the Oncology Clinic of the University Clinical Center Sarajevo announced that, globally, the number of people affected by this disease will increase by 50 to 70 percent over the next 15 years. He said that the youngest patient he treated was 26 years old when diagnosed with breast cancer, while the oldest was over 90 years old.
