The second massacre at Markale in Sarajevo was carried out on this day in 1995 when a shell was fired from Serbian positions, killing 43 and seriously wounding 84 civilians.
This massacre is considered one of the most horrific crimes committed by Serbian military, police, and paramilitary formations in besieged Sarajevo.

The first massacre at this Sarajevo market occurred on February 5, 1994, when Serbian forces killed 68 and wounded 142 civilians.
For war crimes against the residents of Sarajevo, including the two massacres at Markale, the International Court in The Hague sentenced high-ranking officers of the Army of Republika Srpska - Stanislav Galić to life imprisonment, and Dragomir Milošević to 29 years.
