White Armband Day and remembrance of crimes in Prijedor marked in several cities

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - White Armband Day, May 31, observed as a day of remembrance for all victims of crimes by Serb authorities and army in Prijedor, where 3,176 identified victims were killed, including 102 children, was marked in several BiH cities.

A walk was held in Prijedor and flowers were laid for the 102 children who still do not have a monument.

In Sarajevo, a temporary memorial with the names of 102 children inscribed was placed on the Eiffel Bridge. Citizens also tied white armbands around their arms. Flowers with the names of murdered children were placed on the bridge structure. Some citizens hung white cloths on their windows and balconies to remind of the order issued on May 31, 1992, to non-Serb population in Prijedor to mark their houses and wear white armbands.

There are numerous messages on social networks regarding White Armband Day: "Do not forget Prijedor", "Never again and to no one again", "We remember and we warn".

The crimes in Prijedor were also recalled, and the marking of White Armband Day was joined by the Ambassador of Great Britain to BiH Matt Field, basketball player Jusuf Nurkić, and survivors of the Prijedor death camps.

White Armband Day was marked in Mostar, Zagreb, Hamilton (Canada).
