If it were 1992 again, I would vote for BiH in the referendum

Stjepan Kljuić, former member of the BiH Presidency, said in an interview with the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) that the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the brightest moment for this country.

- Unfortunately, everything that happened after March 1, 1992, when the citizens of BiH clearly stated that they did not want to remain part of Yugoslavia, is actually evil and wrong, just as the times BiH is living in today are wrong – says Kljuić.

Today, he talks about the wartime and post-war events in BiH with bitterness. He blames the politicians from Sarajevo the most for the ruin of what the citizens of all three nations achieved in the referendum in '92, specifically their identification with the aggressors "from the left and right sides".

- Both in Banja Luka and Belgrade, they say the referendum was a referendum of two nations. But that is not true. A large number of Serbs, as many as about 30 percent, voted for the independence of BiH. We Croats also made an immeasurable contribution to that. However, along with all the objective difficulties that followed, such as the aggression and other things, the authorities in Sarajevo also contributed to the escalation of troubles in this country, as they did not accept the principles of the referendum, but became one of the three sides – Kljuić believes.

For Kljuić, the bad situation from wartime Bosnia and Herzegovina simply carried over into the post-war period.

- It is difficult to find a solution for Bosnia today. It is difficult to restore the patriotism that people once had. And here's why. The three pillars of every state: media, police, and judiciary, are completely handicapped and corrupt in BiH. The judiciary and police do not function – says Kljuić, adding that he is not sure that the bad situation in BiH can be changed even by social unrest.

- BiH lacks a student elite, which throughout history has been the driving force of progress, rebellion, and good ideas. And there will be no such student elite as long as you have universities in Sokolac, Travnik, or Bijeljina. The trade union, which should represent workers' rights, is also corrupt; it has betrayed the workers – says Kljuić, concluding that only those in power have benefited throughout all the post-war years.

- But if time were to turn back, I would do everything the same again. Because I am a Bosnian integralist – Kljuić concludes.
