Crnkić: Not only doctors are involved in corruption

Kenan Crnkić, director of the Health Insurance Fund of Sarajevo Canton, revealed at today's press conference the initials of three family doctors who, in a single day, January 16, prescribed approximately 700 prescriptions each and reported examining about 200 patients each on the same day, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

The highest number was prescribed by doctor F. Z. S. from the Health Center in Vogošća (751 prescriptions), followed by doctor O. K. S. from the Health Center Novi Grad (749 prescriptions), and doctor K. R. from the Health Center Centar (650 prescriptions).

- The Fund has revoked the codes of these doctors, meaning their right to prescribe medication, and we cannot do more than that - said Crnkić.

When asked by NAP journalists who can fully sanction these compromised doctors, he said that the matter is now in the hands of the health centers from which these doctors come. He also added that the public should know that the mentioned individuals are not the only ones involved in this case.

- They could not physically write such a large number of prescriptions on their own in one day. And all the prescriptions were written correctly. This means that this is a whole chain of people responsible for this case - Crnkić told NAP.

The disclosure of the initials of three doctors from the Health Centers of Sarajevo Canton is the first phase of anti-corruption action in public healthcare of Sarajevo Canton, which the Fund initiated two weeks ago. The loss in the Health Insurance Fund of Sarajevo Canton last year amounted to about 14 million marks, and the prescribing of medication alone exceeded the planned amount by 7.5 million KM.
