Čović optimistic: BiH's European path not lost, Election Law awaits in the House of Peoples of the BiH PA

(Patria) - HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović remains convinced that Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path has not been lost.

"Some would wish it lost because they want us to deal with ourselves. We will do everything on our part to practically show that we are capable of adopting two European laws, appointing a negotiator, and adopting the Growth Plan that has been agreed upon, and now some are trying to block it," Čović said today in Mostar after the HNS session.

He announced the arrival of European Union representatives this month who will meet with the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Borjana Krišto, and in October, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to visit again.

"We will intensify talks with friends of the European path within the seven embassies that declare themselves as such. I have very intensive meetings with them these days. It is clear to us that Brussels has other priorities today, but thanks to the Republic of Croatia and Prime Minister Plenković, we will keep it on the table. I believe we have come to the very last step, more or less everything is ironed out, it's just a matter of goodwill who has more hands in one parliament or the other. It is up to us to try to reconcile the irreconcilable, and I still believe we can do it," said Čović.

He reiterated his stance on the Election Law.

"The Election Law is waiting in the House of Peoples. The moment partners who wish well for BiH accept it, it will be sent into procedure and adopted. I hope in the next month or two," said Čović.

He added that at this moment there is no president of the RS and that this procedure needs to be completed, and that Davor Pranjić, to whom certain powers of the RS president have been transferred, also informed them about the preparations for the elections.
