SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Europe will tomorrow mark May 9, Europe Day and the day of the fight against fascism. On this occasion, numerous delegations in Bosnia and Herzegovina will also lay flowers at the memorials of fighters who fell during World War II.
“The existence of fascist ideology in Europe and Bosnia and Herzegovina proves the necessity of anti-fascist councils today,” says Ibrahim Čomić, president of the Alliance of Associations of Anti-fascists and Fighters of the National Liberation War of Sarajevo Canton, for the Patria agency.
Numerous intellectuals and non-governmental organizations warn of the rise of radicalism throughout Europe, as well as the need for a stronger resistance from pro-European forces. Čomić reminds that Bosnia and Herzegovina is not immune to this, where there are still streets named after people who were on the side of fascism and evil in the past.
“Certainly, we should not retreat and wait to see what will happen. SABNOR should grow into a larger social form of action,” says Čomić.
The president of the Alliance of Associations of Anti-fascists and Fighters of the National Liberation War of Sarajevo Canton, in addition to citizens, also called on the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina to maximally engage in the fight against fascism.
