Members of the House of Peoples Collegium met with the US Ambassador

Members of the Collegium of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Chairman Bariša Čolak and his deputies Ognjen Tadić and Safet Softić met today with the Ambassador of the United States of America to BiH Maureen Cormack, reports the Patria News Agency.

Views were exchanged on the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the major reform tasks arising from the European initiative and the Joint Statement on the European path, and the role and obligations of the House of Peoples and the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH in that process.

It was jointly assessed that the initial reactions of Bosnian-Herzegovinian politicians to the terrorist attack in Zvornik were measured and that the overall institutional response to that act was very positive. This, as stated, contributed to nullifying the possible severe effects of the attack, avoiding chaos, and maintaining normal conditions. Expressing condolences to the family of the murdered police officer, Ambassador Cormack offered cooperation with security and other institutions in an effort to prevent such incidents in the future.

Regarding the priorities of the House of Peoples this year, the members of the Collegium expressed their commitment to the House fully following the increased legislative rhythm, which depends primarily on the work of the Council of Ministers, but also on the fulfillment of tasks imposed by MPs and delegates of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH with their legislative proposals.

In this regard, along with economic reforms, a set of laws regulating the fight against corruption and the financing of terrorism and cross-border crime, and the implementation of decisions of the Court of Justice in Strasbourg, a rapid response aimed at fulfilling the requirements of MONEYVAL, as well as changes in the sphere of electoral legislation, is emerging as a priority, as stated.
