The Cantonal Civil Protection Administration Sarajevo issued a warning to citizens regarding the burning of weeds that can cause fires, reports the Patria News Agency.
- Given that the work on clearing agricultural and other areas, and burning weeds, dry grass, and other low vegetation has already begun, and considering that in previous years numerous fires have been recorded in open spaces, primarily forests and agricultural areas, which have caused significant material damage, we warn citizens that any fire lighting near forest areas or areas under crops, residential areas, railway lines, power lines, oil pipelines, etc. is prohibited – say the KS Civil Protection Administration.
They particularly remind citizens of the following:
- that persons who have carried out the burning of weeds or lighting fires in open spaces are obliged to inspect the burning site and completely extinguish the remains,
- that burning weeds and lighting fires in open spaces during windy conditions and at night is prohibited,
- and if the burning is carried out in the presence of multiple landowners or land users who are organizing burning on a larger agricultural area, they are obliged to inform the firefighters about it.
- In case of uncontrolled spread of fire, it is necessary to immediately inform the firefighters at tel. number 123, the Cantonal Operational Center of Civil Protection at tel. number 121, or the police at tel. number 122. We appeal to all citizens, farmers, and forest workers: adhere to legal provisions, do not light fires in unauthorized places, do not leave fires unattended, do not destroy nature and the environment, because your small carelessness can have major consequences – the warning states.
