(Patria) - Six years after the Trio took power in Sarajevo Canton (KS), there is still no answer to the basic question - are citizens safer, more protected, and living more dignified lives today than yesterday, says MP in the KS Assembly Faruk Selmanović (SDA).
- The answer is, unfortunately, devastating. Sarajevo has become a city of insecurity: physical, social, economic, and institutional. Attacks, shootings, and brutal fights are increasingly happening on the streets - Selmanović told the Patria News Agency (NAP).
According to him, people in their homes fear whether their radiators will work on time, while fear of revenge and political control prevails in public institutions. And above all, there is silence and a feeling of complete loss of trust in the government that promised a "new era of responsibility".
- Sarajevo Canton, once a mirror of development and management, is today a laboratory of improvisation and ignorance. Ministries have become party outposts, public companies prey for personnel calculations, and the budget a weapon of political blackmail. And while millions are spent on marketing campaigns, citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to pay for heating, utilities, and basic needs.
Energy insecurity has become a symbol of that chaos. While people in Vogošća fear whether they will face winter with warm radiators, the minister who was supposed to solve the energy issue is publicly saying that he "doesn't care about young people and their subsidies". And how else to perceive this in a country where people are leaving en masse, than as a kind of "obituary for hope" - emphasizes Selmanović.
Selmanović: Systemic collapse of institutions (Photo: Facebook)
But, adds our interlocutor, the problem is deeper. It is about the systemic collapse of institutions.
- The police are under political pressure, the judiciary under party supervision, and the administration under constant fear of dismissal. And this is the essence of the crisis in Sarajevo Canton - a government that does not protect citizens, but itself.
The same logic prevails in the economy. One-off aid, subsidies "tailored for elections", short-term effects, all to create an illusion of prosperity. While the government poses for photos with signed "growth plans", the reality is empty refrigerators, tanks, and, to be fair, radiators. Sarajevo does not need marketing optimism, it needs a policy that resembles this nation. A policy that has a soul and a vision.
This government assured us that it could show a better Bosnia and Herzegovina, led differently. Instead, it showed that behind the slogans of change are people without a compass, without responsibility, and without awareness of the weight of the trust they received.
And while they are concerned with their own positions, citizens remain hostages of the created insecurity. Because these salon politicians do not know that security is when you know that your child will have school tomorrow, that your home will be warm, that your salary will be enough, and that the state will not leave you alone.
Unfortunately, Sarajevo Canton is the opposite of all that today. And that is why the question that must be asked is no longer political, but moral: How many more mandates do we need to lose to understand that power is not measured by the number of press conferences, but by the warmth of homes, the safety of streets, and the people's faith in a better tomorrow - Selmanović concluded in a statement to NAP.
