Alexis Tsipras, president of the radical left-wing party Syriza, which won yesterday's parliamentary elections in Greece, wrote on Twitter that after the victory, "a path of work and struggle opens up", reports the Patria News Agency.
- A path of work and struggle opens before us, Tsipras wrote in a message published less than an hour after his main rival Vangelis Meimarakis, leader of the right-wing New Democracy, admitted defeat.
According to official partial results of counting 53 percent of the votes, Syriza won 35.5 percent of the votes, and the right-wing 28 percent, a lead of more than 7 percentage points.
The spokesperson for Syriza said that the leaders of Syriza and Independent Greeks agreed to form a government. Earlier, a high-ranking source from Syriza said that Tsipras would form a government within three days.
Vangelis Meimarakis admitted defeat and said that the priority for the country now is to form a government.
- I congratulate him (Tsipras) and ask him to form the government that is needed and come to parliament, he told reporters, writes Index.
