Entire BiH Women's Football Team Learns Sign Language for New Player

BiH, (Patria) - The girls of the Bosnia and Herzegovina U-16 women's football team have hired a sign language teacher to teach them this communication method, so they can more easily communicate with the new player who recently joined the team.

The exceptionally talented Jovana Stevanović, a player for the Women's Football Club „Radnik“ from Bijeljina, joined the national team at the beginning of the month, and her teammates expressed their hospitality in a rather unusual way.

Coordinator for Women's Football Ivana Vlaić told the Patria news agency that by learning sign language, they want to achieve two goals: to facilitate communication between the team and Jovana, but also to send a strong message that people with disabilities should and can be part of the community as a whole.

„This is the first gathering of the national team since Jovana joined us. We agreed that during each gathering, we will invite a sign language teacher to teach the entire team sign language,“ said Vlaić, adding that the whole team is enjoying the new activities.

Jovana Stevanović, despite having hearing and speech impairments, is currently the second-highest scorer in the cadet Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina with 25 goals, and her club is convincingly first in the standings and a serious contender for the championship title.
