(Patria) - Fourteen fans of Split's Hajduk admitted guilt and were sentenced to three months in prison each at the Municipal Court in Živinice for the recent attack on members of the FK Crvena zvezda fan group.
However, they may soon be released from custody after each individually pays around 4,500 euros to commute their sentence, Hina reports.
Lawyer Mirko Lekić confirmed that the legal team for the Torcida members had been negotiating with the Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton (TK) for the past seven days to reach a plea agreement that includes admitting guilt with the condition of a three-month prison sentence.
A hearing was held at the Municipal Court in Živinice, where the plea agreement was confirmed.
- The court accepted the agreement. It imposed a sentence of three months in prison. The time they have spent in custody will be credited towards their sentence - Lekić said.
Torcida members attacked Crvena zvezda fans on January 24 near Tuzla International Airport, injuring several people, including a police officer.
More than 90 participants in the riots were detained at the time, while 14 were kept in custody. Of that number, eleven reside in Croatia, and three in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Lekić explained that the lawyers will, immediately upon receiving the written verdict from the Municipal Court, file a request to commute the sentence, which is possible in BiH if the imposed sentence is up to one year in prison.
- After the court approves it, the commutation of the sentence costs around 150 KM, or about 75 euros per day, and once they pay that amount, they can be released - Lekić stated.
Given that they have already spent a month in custody, each of the convicted will have to pay around 4,500 euros to be released.
