Čerkez: We expect an inevitable increase in infections, young people are spreading the virus

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Goran Čerkez, Assistant Minister of Health of the FBiH, stated that 1,966 people have been tested in FBiH so far, and 248 are positive for coronavirus. During yesterday and today, 34 cases have been confirmed. Yesterday, 341 tests were performed in FBiH.

By cantons, HNK has 67 patients, KS 35, ZDK 29, TK 43, ZHK 34, USK 20, SBK 13, BPK 6, PK 1, Canton 10.

"We expect an inevitable increase in coronavirus infections. Epidemiologists are working 24 hours continuously, conducting tests, tracing contacts, and trying to slow down the infection. Monitoring hotspots is becoming increasingly difficult and challenging. It is necessary to adhere to the restrictive measures that have been adopted to reduce social contact and which have led to this slight increase. The most difficult part of the pandemic lies ahead; we must all adhere to isolation and self-isolation, and be aware that any one of us can get sick," said Čerkez.

He called on citizens to avoid gatherings in houses and apartments, unnecessary outings, and to stay at home.

"Our doctors regularly monitor global developments and best practices; there are still no evidence-based studies. We are monitoring everything and using treatments that are also used abroad in our daily practice and treatments," said Čerkez.

The government has allocated 80 million KM for healthcare.

Speaking about the movement ban for those under 18, Čerkez said that young people contribute to the spread of the coronavirus.

"A large number of young people are asymptomatic patients and potentially spread the virus throughout the community. We regularly review the issue and are looking for ways to ease the movement ban for those under 18. However, health is at risk at this moment; these measures are not taken with any other purpose than to protect the health of young and old. We know that this measure is a concern for many parents, and we are constantly considering it, and we will consider it again tomorrow," emphasized Čerkez.
