Approval of the BiH Presidency awaited for engagement of Armed Forces in marking the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide

(Patria) - July 11 is approaching, the day when the remains of 14 victims of the genocide committed in Srebrenica in the summer of 1995 will be buried at the collective funeral prayer to be held at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center.

The youngest victim to be buried this year is seventeen-year-old Beriz (Omera) Mujić, born in 1978 in Zvornik. He was killed in July 1995 in the Sućeska area near Bratunac, and his remains were exhumed in May 2023 in the Srebrenica municipality. He will be buried next to his brother Hazim, who was buried in Potočari in 2013.

The oldest victim to be buried is Salić (Ibrahima) Hamed, born in 1927. He was 68 years old when he went missing in the summer of 1995 in the Žepa area. His remains were exhumed at the Slap site in Žepa in May 2014.

As every year ahead of the collective funeral prayer, the police from the Republika Srpska come into possession of certain alleged information claiming they have knowledge that someone among the Bosniaks will cause unrest or incidents.

Thus, this year a note was made that Sanin Musa would lead incidents, and he has already been questioned at the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, denying all claims from the note received from Republika Srpska.

"I am the president of an official political party, not an activist nor an informal figure, and it is absolutely stupid and fabricated that I would do anything in Srebrenica or anywhere else that is not in accordance with the law and the Constitution of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Musa stated.

The Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH has already formed teams and is working urgently on security measures and plans for securing the funeral prayer and the commemorative gathering.

It is also known that members of the Armed Forces of BiH participate, including the KDZ team of the Armed Forces and a helicopter for emergency evacuation of the Armed Forces of BiH (MEDEVAC). However, their participation must be approved by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is expected that this will be done in the coming days.

Also, earlier unofficial information that the MUP of RS would not participate in security on July 11 proved to be incorrect, and according to information from Patria, the MUP of RS has already formed a coordination team.
