(Patria) - UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin stated at the Congress in Paris that he will not run for a new term at the head of the European football governing body in 2027.
Changes were made to the Statute at the Congress that would have allowed him a new term, but a turn of events occurred, and the Slovenian will leave UEFA after his current term expires.
- About six months ago, I decided that I would not run again. The reason for this is that every organization needs fresh blood.
But the main reason is that I have been away from my family for seven years now, and I will be for another three - said Čeferin at a press conference after the Congress in Paris.
Čeferin came to the head of UEFA in 2016, when he replaced Michel Platini. He was elected for his first full term in 2019, and for his second in 2023.
