The hand of justice will reach Syrian President Bashar al-Assad even if he remains in power in the event of a negotiated solution to the war in Syria, UN human rights investigator Carla del Ponte said on Monday, reports the Patria news agency.
"Assad is the president, so we are dealing with the institution of the presidency. If we can reach a ceasefire with him, why not? But after that, justice comes," said Del Ponte to reporters.
"Remember the former Yugoslavia. Milošević was the president, the Dayton peace negotiations took place and an agreement was reached. Milošević was still president, but that did not hinder justice. Here is one example from the past," she added.
