Final preparations are underway for the reopening of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been closed since October 2012, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The Museum will open on September 15th at 2:00 PM.
The successfully conducted campaign „I am the Museum“, in which numerous public figures from BiH and diplomacy stood guard alongside employees, along with the pressure exerted on responsible institutions to secure funding, has resulted in the opening of the doors of this national treasure of BiH to the public.
Adnan Busuladžić, director of the National Museum of BiH, told the Patria agency that there is no room for euphoria because numerous problems still exist.
- I think we should not open the Museum with euphoria; there are many problems that have yet to be addressed. Legal issues, status issues, and the legal framework for funding, but I must praise the activities of the current authorities as well as the readiness of various municipalities and cantons that will sign a memorandum on funding these institutions for 2016 - said Busuladžić.
The lack of financial resources was the burning problem that kept the Museum closed for nearly three full years.
- We have concrete promises that the money will be secured, sufficient and on time, by the Sarajevo Canton, the Council of Ministers of BiH, and the state, both for this year and the next. I hope for a normalization of the situation regarding funding, while the legal battle is yet to come - said Busuladžić.
