Citizens' awakening is the only hope for Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - The speed and series of events leading to the degradation, destruction, and denial of every symbol of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its statehood, integrity, and sovereignty are incomprehensible. It is also incomprehensible that for thirty years we have been electing people who do not know and cannot defend what is Bosnian-Herzegovinian and a symbol of the country we live in, because they are too busy with their own positions and power, said the president of the Platform for Progress, Mirsad Hadžikadić.

"The latest example, for the umpteenth time, is the endangerment of BHRT, the state public broadcaster. For decades, regardless of which government we had, a long-term solution for this symbol of our statehood has not been found. Neither the old nor the new government. With short-sighted and hasty solutions, they are buying time for themselves, even on this issue. So they say they are not counting on the 80 million debt of RTRS, which consciously refuses to pay its obligations, and they will try to 'collect' the money through FTV and state institutions. Thus, once again, the entity of RS humiliates state institutions without any response or sanction, while the FBiH and its citizens pay the price," points out Hadžikadić.

He adds that at the same time, the Old Bridge in Mostar is presented as "Croatian cultural heritage," and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian authorities have no adequate response to this, as well as to other decades-long appropriations by neighbors.

"We are again hearing about meetings on amendments to the Election Law, where there is no progress and no concrete proposals. All we know, as expected, is that HDZ does not want constitutional amendments that would enable the application of international judgments, while the representatives of the Trojka are embellishing and saying that 'different views have been presented' on this issue. Really? After so many meetings and discussions about the Election Law, they have only presented different views again?" asks the president of the Platform for Progress.

"There is a lot of ignorance, lack of awareness about the country, struggle for positions, and political manipulation aimed at deceiving citizens. We have been watching this for thirty years, both from the old and from the 'new' politicians who emerged from the old parties. For all that is happening in the country, the key to the solution lies precisely with the citizens, both at home and in the diaspora. Citizens must have the opportunity to 'punish' politicians who do not fulfill their obligations to either the state or the citizens, and they can only do so through fair elections. Perhaps the word legitimacy should refer to the elections themselves. We need legitimate elections that will reflect the true will of the citizens.
