(Patria) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was hospitalized on Sunday evening due to persistent coronavirus symptoms more than 10 days after testing positive, was transferred to the intensive care unit on Monday evening.
His spokesperson confirmed around 2:00 PM on Tuesday that the prime minister is 'stable' and that he 'does not have pneumonia'.
His condition worsened on Monday afternoon, and intensive care was the only correct decision.
Dominic Raab, the Foreign Secretary, is replacing Johnson at the helm of the British government.
A day earlier, Johnson spoke from the hospital via Twitter, stating that he is in 'good spirits' and that he regularly communicates with his team, emphasizing that he continues to coordinate activities in the fight against the coronavirus – from his hospital bed. He also thanked the 'brilliant' medical staff caring for him, who bear a huge burden of caring for patients suffering from the coronavirus.
In the United Kingdom, more than 47,000 people have contracted the coronavirus. The government has announced that it will 'double' testing to slow the spread of the disease.
On Sunday evening, Queen Elizabeth addressed the British nation with an encouraging message for citizens to remain united and strong.
