BRČKO After 32 years, families of murdered Husein Kršo and Hajrudin Mujezinović lay flowers at the site of their execution

(Patria) - The Association for Social Research and Communication (UDIK) reminds the public of war crimes committed in Brčko during the war against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The fall of the Sava Bridge on the last day of April 1992 marked the beginning of the Serbian occupation of Brčko. In the following days, starting from May 2, civilians of Bosniak and Croat ethnicity were taken to camps. The most notorious torture centers in the city on the Sava became Luka and the Partizan sports hall. Residents of Brčko were imprisoned and killed, among other places, in the Hadži Pašina mosque, the hospital, and also in the Police Station building. For war crimes in Brčko, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) sentenced Goran Jelisic to 40 years, and Ranko Češić to 18 years in prison.

On May 25, 2023, UDIK submitted an initiative to the Assembly of Brčko District of BiH to erect a memorial plaque at the entrance to the Craftsmen's Center in Brčko. At that location, Goran Jelisic executed non-Serb civilians. On May 7, 1992, Belgrade photojournalist Bojan Stojanović documented the execution of Husein Kršo and Hajrudin Muzurović at that spot. The photographs became evidence of war crimes in Bosnian Posavina. However, despite these being recognizable images and the location being in the very center of the city, we have not yet received a response from the Assembly of Brčko District.

Furthermore, on March 15, 2024, UDIK submitted the same initiative to the Mayor of Brčko District of BiH, the President of the Assembly of Brčko District of BiH, and to five commissions of the Assembly of Brčko District of BiH. As with the previous correspondence, responses to these are still pending.

On May 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM, UDIK, together with the families of the murdered civilians Muzurović and Kršo, will visit the crime scene. Through this act, after 32 years, relatives will for the first time be able to lay flowers at the execution site of their loved ones and remember them together, and to request the erection of a memorial plaque from the authorities of Brčko District of BiH.

We once again call on the authorities of Brčko District of BiH to erect a memorial plaque on the wall of the Craftsmen's Center. To permanently mark the place where their fellow citizens were murdered. As a lesson for future generations, so that such crimes are never repeated anywhere, it was stated by UDIK.
